This hillside cottage was a collaborative project between Outside In Construction and their client, who wanted to make use of an existing garage foundation that was cut into the hillside on their property.
The client envisioned a cozy New England cottage that could accommodate their family and friends, as this is one of two homes on the family compound.
The cottage has three levels, each with its own function and charm. The lower level has a two car garage, a spacious laundry/utility room, and a storage/workshop area that can be used for various purposes.
The main floor has an open-plan design that combines a small kitchen, a dining area, and a living room with a stone veneer gas fireplace. The living room has high cathedral ceilings with natural pine finish, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The main floor also has a master suite with a shared bathroom, a guest bedroom, and an office space that can be converted into another bedroom if needed.
The upper level has a private loft space that offers stunning views of the mountain and the surrounding nature. The cottage also has a large side deck that overlooks a mountainside river and waterfall, creating a serene and relaxing environment. This connects to an outdoor fire pit that is perfect for roasting marshmallows and enjoying the starry night.
The client has been very happy with the outcome of the project and has enjoyed using the home since its completion. They are now planning to work with Outside In Construction again on a large addition to this home, to increase the living space and accommodate their growing family.
